Water supply problems have continued for a third consecutive day across parts of Kent and Sussex as high temperatures drive up demand.

Customers of South East Water in the Kent villages of Charing, Challock and Molash first began reporting disruption on Saturday morning, with the situation peaking on Sunday when around 800 homes were affected.

The company says the issue has been linked to increased demand in hot weather, which has made it more difficult to maintain adequate pressure and pump water to higher ground.

As of Monday, an incident manager said around 250 homes are currently affected, with intermittent issues also reported overnight in areas including Broomfield Gate, Whitstable, Anvil Green, Waltham and Elmsted.

Across Kent and East Sussex, the total number of homes impacted is believed to be around 500.

In Eastbourne, around 168 homes were also affected by supply issues on Sunday afternoon.

Bottled water stations remain in place in Challock for residents impacted by the disruption.

The company says it is continuing efforts to stabilise supplies, warning that some customers in higher areas may still experience low pressure or temporary loss of service during peak demand periods.
