A new Hove pizza restaurant has been given a late-night licence, but will close earlier than the owners originally requested.
Perfect Pizza Place Ltd, trading as Hove Pizza Plaice at 162 Portland Road, had applied to stay open from 11am to 4am daily, with deliveries after 11pm.
At a Brighton and Hove City Council licensing panel on Friday 1 August, owners Sankar Sengottian and Moham Palanisamy offered a compromise of 2am closing, deliveries only after 11pm, and no alcohol sales.
The council generally limits late-night takeaways outside the city centre to midnight.
Sussex Police opposed the application, citing the potential for late-night disorder in an area that saw 283 crimes – including 73 violent offences – over the past year.
Environmental officers also raised concerns over noise from cooking and extraction equipment.
The panel of three Labour councillors approved the licence for 2am closing on Friday and Saturday nights, with midnight closing the rest of the week.
The council praised the owners for taking steps to reduce noise and agreed to conditions including joining the Brighton Crime Reduction Partnership.
