Rail passengers across Sussex are facing significant disruption after a fault with a key communication system.

Southern Rail said a problem with the radio link between drivers and signallers is affecting services across the network, leading to delays of up to 45 minutes and widespread cancellations.

Routes across the region have been impacted, with some services unable to run beyond Chichester towards Havant, while others between Brighton and the south coast have been suspended or shortened.

Passengers are being advised that disruption is expected to continue throughout the day while engineers work to resolve the issue alongside Network Rail.

Ticket acceptance has been put in place on alternative rail routes and local bus services, including Brighton and Hove buses between Brighton and Shoreham-by-Sea.

Travellers are being urged to check before they travel and allow extra time for their journeys.
