Alison Griffiths, MP for Bognor Regis and Littlehampton, has criticised the Government after it delayed its announcement on local council reorganisation in West Sussex, warning the move risks prolonging uncertainty for residents and local services.

The Government had been expected to give a clear direction by the end of March, but instead confirmed a further consultation.

The delay leaves questions over how services will be delivered across Bognor Regis, Littlehampton, and surrounding communities.

Alison Griffiths has previously voiced concerns about the impact of reorganisation on coastal areas, particularly the risk that decision-making could become more distant from the communities it affects.

She said:

"Residents were expecting clarity by now, but instead they’re left with more delay and more uncertainty.
"Councils are having to spend time, money, and resources on a process that still has no clear direction instead of delivering vital services."

She added:

"I am not interested in reorganisation for its own sake.
"What matters is whether it improves services, strengthens accountability, and works for local communities.
"People want reliable services and decisions made by those who understand the area, not changes that make things more complicated or remote."

Alison confirmed she will continue to engage with local authorities and Ministers, pressing for clarity on the Government’s plans and their potential impact on West Sussex.
