Residents of Peacehaven are calling for a referendum on proposed local government changes across Sussex.

At a public meeting on Tuesday (12 August), around 200 people heard proposals for Brighton and Hove City Council to expand eastward to include Peacehaven, Telscombe Cliffs, and East Saltdean.

Many attendees criticised the consultation process, saying they had not been properly consulted and urging that only those directly affected should have a say.

Speakers highlighted the impact on local services, infrastructure, and community identity, while Sussex Association of Local Councils chief executive Trevor Leggo noted town and parish councils could hold a non-binding parish poll.

Brighton and Hove City Council’s consultation on the proposals runs until 25 August, with Lewes District Council also seeking feedback on alternative boundary options.
