Plans to build 300 homes in West Sussex have been withdrawn after the developer faced hundreds of objections, including concerns over flooding and sewage capacity.

David Wilson Homes had applied to Chichester District Council in May 2024 for permission to build at Stubcroft Farm in East Wittering.

The proposals attracted significant opposition from residents, with concerns raised about drainage, flooding risk and local infrastructure.

The council twice granted extensions to allow further investigation into flooding issues, but officers were reportedly minded to refuse the application due to ongoing concerns, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

Now, almost two years after the plans were first submitted, agents Henry Adams LLP have formally withdrawn the application.

In a letter to the council, the firm said it remained confident the issues raised could be resolved, but acknowledged the length of time already spent on the application and that no further extensions were possible.

It added that it was therefore “appropriate to withdraw the applications at this stage”.

The withdrawal does not prevent a future application being submitted for the same site.
