Police have launched an investigation after a woman reported being raped in Worthing on Wednesday evening.

The incident is believed to have happened in Lyndhurst Road Car Park shortly after 8pm on 11 March.

The victim, a woman in her 20s, is currently being supported by specialist officers while detectives carry out enquiries.

Jay Mendis-Gunasekera said officers are working quickly to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“We are at the early stages of this investigation and the victim will continue to receive our full support as this progresses,” he said.
“Detectives are exploring a number of lines of enquiry to identify and locate a suspect.”

Residents may notice an increased police presence in the area, with the car park expected to remain closed while officers gather and preserve evidence.

Anyone with information that could help the investigation is asked to contact Sussex Police online or via 101, quoting Operation Blyth.
