Seven more drivers — including a student, cleaner and carpet fitter — have been banned from the roads following a Christmas drink and drug-driving crackdown by Sussex Police.

The operation, which ran from 1 December to 1 January, saw 279 people arrested across Sussex.

So far, 32 offenders have been convicted.

Among the latest cases, a 21-year-old student from Brighton was banned from driving for 20 months after being caught over the legal alcohol limit and without insurance.

A cleaner from Eastbourne received a 38-month ban, while a carpet fitter from Worthing was disqualified for 12 months.

Other offenders included drivers arrested in Hove, Portslade, Crawley and Haywards Heath, with bans ranging from four to 20 months.

Some were also fined, ordered to complete unpaid work, or convicted of additional offences such as driving without insurance or a licence.

Sussex Police says it will continue naming and prosecuting offenders as part of efforts to deter dangerous driving.

Officers warn drink or drug-driving can result in serious injury or death, a minimum 12-month driving ban, unlimited fines, a criminal record, and possible imprisonment.

Anyone who suspects someone is driving under the influence is urged to call 999 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously.
