Sussex Police Tops National 999 Response Statistics For Fourth Month Running

Sussex Police has been ranked the top performing force in the country for answering 999 calls, topping the national table for four consecutive months.

National figures show Sussex Police answered over 98% of 999 calls within 10 seconds, outperforming every other force in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland between August and November 2025.

Sussex Police received 22,077 emergency 999 calls in November, with an average answer time of 4 seconds.

New contact technology has transformed call handling, improving how 999 and 101 calls are routed and managed in the Force Contact and Control Room. 

Advanced data analytics have helped to give a clear overview of demand, staffing, and available resources, allowing quicker and more effective deployment of officers and staff to where they are needed most.

Chief Superintendent Rachel Glenton said:

“This achievement is down to the dedication of our control and contact handlers, who work around the clock in our control room in Lewes, and the improvements we’ve made to our systems and processes to ensure we’re ready to respond.”
