Parts of Sussex could see temperatures soar to around 26°C on Wednesday as a brief spell of very warm weather peaks across the South East.
According to the Met Office, lighter winds and strong sunshine will make it feel particularly warm across central and southeastern areas, including Sussex, with temperatures well above the early April average.
Highs in the low to mid-20s are expected widely, with Wednesday likely to be the warmest day of the week.
However, forecasters say the warm conditions will be short-lived. A noticeable change is expected from Thursday, with cooler air moving in from the northwest, bringing more cloud, showers and strengthening winds.
Temperatures could drop by as much as 10°C in some areas between Wednesday and Thursday.
Met Office Chief Forecaster Paul Gundersen said the UK is seeing a “brief but notable spell of very warm weather”, but warned it will soon turn more unsettled heading into the weekend.
Forecasters are also warning of very high pollen levels across much of England, including Sussex, along with increasing UV levels during sunny spells.
By Friday and into the weekend, conditions are expected to become more changeable, with a mix of sunshine and showers and temperatures returning closer to seasonal averages.
