A teenage drink-driver was described as “very lucky” after walking away from a crash on the A27 at Tangmere.
Police were called to reports of an overturned Vauxhall Corsa at around 5am on Friday 12 December.
The driver and sole occupant, 18-year-old Oliver Durrant from Bognor Regis, was checked over by paramedics and suffered no serious injuries.
Durrant admitted he had been drinking before driving home from a night out in Chichester.
A breath test showed he had 52 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, almost one and a half times the legal limit.
He appeared at Worthing Magistrates’ Court on 13 January, where he was banned from driving for 14 months, fined £350, and ordered to pay costs and a victim surcharge.
The conviction comes as part of Sussex Police’s Christmas crackdown on drink and drug-driving.
During the operation, which ran from 1 December to 1 January, 279 people were arrested, with 32 convictions so far.
Police say they will continue to publicly name those convicted as a deterrent and are urging people to report anyone they suspect of driving while over the limit.
