A violinist with the London Philharmonic Orchestra is appealing for help after accidentally leaving his instrument on a train in southern England.

Joseph Maher, who plays second violin with the orchestra, was travelling to a rehearsal in London on Friday 10 April when the incident happened.

He had been on the 09:01 service from Haywards Heath to Blackfriars, and believes he left the violin case behind in carriage eight.

Inside the case were his violin and bows.

The violin is a 20th-century instrument made by Paul Jocelyn.

The bows include a gold-mounted Hill bow featuring a fleur-de-lys design, along with a silver-mounted Martin bow.

The items were stored in a dark grey fibreglass case marked with an LPO luggage label.

Mr Maher is now asking for the safe return of the instrument.

British Transport Police have been notified and issued reference number 2600046784.

Anyone who may have seen the case or knows where it is is urged to get in touch by calling 07801 598483.
