68 Objections Over Plans For Nine Homes In Cowfold

Plans to build nine homes in Cowfold have been refused by Horsham District Council.

The application from Eastlands Farm Ltd & Hunter Developments Ltd, for two plots of land on Eastlands Lane, was turned down by planning officers earlier this month.

The council received 66 letters objecting to the plans – along with objections from Cowfold Parish Council – with concerns raiesed including road safety, over-development, and the impact on wildlife habitat.

The council can only demonstrate that it has a one-year supply of housing land, rather than the five years required. This usually tilts things in favour of the development.

But officers refused the application on the grounds that it would be outside the built-up area boundary, and would suburbanise the site, diluting and eroding the ‘informal character of the landscape and countryside setting’.

Their report added: “The proposal would result in a prominent form of development that would fail to preserve and / or enhance the landscape characteristics of the area.”

To view the application, log on to public-access.horsham.gov.uk and search for DC/26/0472.
