Three barns have been destroyed in a major fire at an agricultural site in East Hoathly following a series of explosions.
Fire crews were called to Ailies Lane shortly before midnight on Tuesday, May 5, with multiple appliances sent to tackle the blaze.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said cylinders at the site exploded during the incident, forcing firefighters to withdraw to a 200-metre safety zone while the fire intensified.
More than 60 emergency calls were received from members of the public as flames spread through the buildings. Ground monitors were used to deliver high volumes of water as crews worked to bring the situation under control.
The barns were described as “extensively destroyed,” with the incident later scaled back and left as a controlled burn overnight. All people at the site were accounted for.
Two fire engines remain at the scene, damping down hotspots and ensuring the area is safe. A road closure is still in place between Whitesmith Lane and Graywood Lane.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is due to take place.
