Dolly Parton Remembered Around The World Following Her Death

The world is remembering Dolly Parton, following the death of the country music icon at the age of 80.

Parton died in Nashville on Tuesday after a brief battle with cancer, her publicist said, with the singer surrounded by loved ones at a local cancer centre.

The Tennessee-born star became one of the biggest names in music, with hits including Jolene, 9 To 5 and I Will Always Love You helping to establish a career that lasted more than 60 years.

Her influence stretched far beyond music, with Parton also celebrated for her acting, business success and extensive charitable work.

Tributes have been coming from musicians, celebrities and political figures, while fans have gathered at memorials in Nashville and other parts of the United States.

There has also been a tribute in London, where 9 To 5 was performed by the Band of the Coldstream Guards during the Changing the Guard ceremony at Buckingham Palace.

The Royal Family praised Parton's contribution to children's literacy through her Imagination Library, which has provided hundreds of millions of free books to children around the world.

Parton's ability to appeal to people across generations and political backgrounds has been repeatedly highlighted following her death.

In the US, President Donald Trump has ordered flags at federal buildings and other locations to be flown at half-staff until September 1 as a mark of respect.
