Brighton has officially joined the IKEA family, with the Swedish homeware giant opening its brand-new city-centre store in Churchill Square this morning (14 August).

Councillor Amanda Grimshaw BEM cut the ribbon at 10am alongside the store’s 150 co-workers, welcoming the first customers to explore the 6,695-square-metre space spread over two floors.

This is IKEA’s third city-centre store in the UK, offering 2,600 home accessories and small furniture pieces to take home the same day, plus the option to order from the full range for delivery or collection.

Customers can also enjoy the classic IKEA experience – from inspiring roomsets and a ‘Re-Shop and Re-use’ section to a 100-seat Swedish Deli restaurant serving favourites like meatballs and salmon dishes.

The opening day had a real party atmosphere, with live music, seagull mascots, a magician, food tastings, and prizes for the first 100 IKEA Family Members through the door – including gift cards worth up to £1,000.

Karina Gilpin, Market Manager at IKEA Brighton, said:

“It’s fantastic to finally open in the heart of Brighton.
"Whether you’re here to plan your dream kitchen, pick up some home essentials, or just enjoy a taste of Sweden, we hope everyone feels at home.”

IKEA Brighton is open Monday–Saturday, 10am–8pm, and Sunday, 11am–5pm.
