Driver Jailed For Fatal A21 Crash Near Whatlington

A driver who killed a motorcyclist after dangerously overtaking on the A21 near Whatlington has been jailed for five years.

Nathaniel Simpson was driving southbound on the A21 on 6 May 2024 when he crossed double white lines to overtake a flatbed lorry.

He then collided with a Honda Jazz travelling in the opposite direction, forcing it off the road and into a bank.

As Simpson's BMW continued to rotate in the wet conditions, it hit a Triumph motorcycle travelling in the opposite direction.

The 57-year-old motorcyclist, from Brighton, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Simpson, 37, from Sidcup, denied causing death by dangerous driving but was found guilty following a trial at Lewes Crown Court.

He was sentenced to five years in prison and disqualified from driving for seven-and-a-half years. He'll need to pass an extended driving test if he wants to drive again.

Judge Chappell said Simpson had overtaken on double white lines on a blind bend during torrential rain, while also exceeding the 50mph speed limit.
