A charity working to save one of East Sussex’s most significant historic buildings has received more than £21,000 in new funding.
Friends of the Mint House has been awarded £21,120 from Historic England to progress restoration plans for the Grade II-listed Mint House on Pevensey High Street, currently on the Heritage at Risk Register.
The timber-framed building dates back to the early 1500s and is believed to be one of the largest surviving detached kitchen buildings of its kind in the county.
The grant will fund structural surveys, a conservation plan and detailed repair reports.
Project manager Jonathan Seaman said the funding marks “the next step” in securing the future of what he described as “a real local icon”.
Historic England said the work will help clarify what is needed to repair and protect the building.
