Hastings Residents Call For Pavement Repairs After Two-Year Wait

Residents in Hastings are calling for a damaged pavement to be repaired, after part of it was closed off for more than two years.

The hole appeared on Highfield Drive, near Copse Close, in May 2024 and was reported to East Sussex County Council.

Residents say it is unsafe and unsightly, with one claiming their dog fell into the hole.

They also say a street light had to be removed because of the damage.

The council says it is not responsible for the repair, after finding the void beneath the pavement extended under an extension on private property.

But homeowner Lisa Stocker disputes the council's position and says she has received little communication about how the problem will be resolved.

She said:

“The council hasn’t really responded.

"They’ve started to repair the work, but then failed to carry it on.”

East Sussex County Council says it is continuing to work with the homeowner and others to find a solution as quickly as possible.
