A woman from Horsham is among those to benefit after a record number of life-saving liver transplants were carried out at King’s College Hospital.

The London-based trust says it performed 277 liver transplants in 2025 — believed to be the highest number completed by a single centre in the UK in one year.

Among the patients was Hannah Dyos, who was diagnosed with a rare condition called Autoimmune Hepatitis, where the body’s immune system attacks the liver.

The 27-year-old began experiencing symptoms including itching and yellowing of the skin, before her condition rapidly worsened last year.

She was transferred from her local hospital to King’s, where she underwent a liver transplant just days later.

Hannah says her recovery has taken time, but she is now doing much better and has praised both her donor and the hospital staff for saving her life.

King’s specialist liver unit, one of the largest in Europe, carried out 227 adult and 50 paediatric transplants over the year.

Consultant surgeon Miriam Cortes-Cerisuelo says the milestone reflects a huge team effort, with advances in technology — including machine perfusion — helping make more transplants possible.

She added that demand for liver transplants remains high, and paid tribute to donors and their families for making the life-saving procedures possible.
