Twelve young people have completed the latest IGNITE course run by West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service, celebrating their achievements at a special pass-out parade in Bognor Fire Station.

The students, aged 16 to 19 from Chichester College, took part in firefighter-style exercises alongside teamwork challenges, first aid training and communication activities — all designed to boost confidence, wellbeing and life skills.

Certificates were presented by Area Manager Ady Carter, who praised the group’s hard work and said he hoped the experience might inspire future careers in the fire service.

Cabinet Member for Community Support, Fire & Rescue, Duncan Crow, also congratulated the students, saying programmes like IGNITE help build stronger and safer communities across West Sussex.

The IGNITE scheme aims to support young people’s personal development while giving them an insight into emergency service work.

Loved the Ignite students’ graduation at the fire station! Amazing achievement and great community spirit. Moments like this show the value of learning, just like Industrial Safety Animations help make safety clear and memorable.
