A key route in East Sussex is set to reopen later today (Thursday) following weeks of disruption caused by major gas repair works.
A stretch of the A267 at Argos Hill, near Mayfield, has been closed since mid-February after damage to the gas network allowed water to enter the system.
SGN has confirmed the road will reopen at 12:00 today, although temporary two-way traffic lights will remain in place for around three weeks while final work is carried out.
The lights will be manually controlled between 07:00 and 19:00 each day to help manage traffic flow along the busy route.
Engineers are continuing to decommission old metal pipework as part of the project, following the installation of a new plastic gas main.
Further disruption is expected in the area from this evening, with the B2101 Bicycle Arms Road set to close at its junction with the A267 from 18:30 for approximately three weeks.
This will allow crews to complete the final connections to the new system.
Diversions will be clearly signposted for motorists, while some local bus services around Rotherfield are also expected to be affected during this phase of the works.
