Plans to convert a former laser tag centre in Crawley into a cash and carry warehouse have been approved by councillors.
Crawley Borough Council’s planning committee gave the go-ahead on Tuesday (10 March) for the change of use at the Lazer World site on Spindle Way in Three Bridges.
The application was submitted by Hallan Cash & Carry, which already operates a wholesale store on Ifield Road.
Under the plans, an additional floor will be added to the building to create extra warehouse space. The site will also include parking for two lorries, six vans and 14 cars.
Yasmin Khan welcomed the proposal, describing it as “a really good idea”, noting that many local businesses currently have to travel out of town to purchase goods in bulk.
However, some concerns were raised about the number of large vehicles likely to visit the site, the potential impact on traffic along Spindle Way, and whether enough parking would be available.
Planning officers told the committee that the building had historically been used as a warehouse, including previously by Littlewoods, before it became a laser tag venue.
Councillor Kim Jaggard said she had no objection to the new business but expressed disappointment at the loss of another leisure facility for young people.
“It’s just very disappointing that our young people are increasingly having their facilities closed down,” she said.
Residents who want to view the plans can search for application CR/2022/0637/FUL on the Crawley Borough Council planning portal.
