A man has been arrested after a car was driven the wrong way along a Brighton road before hitting eight parked vehicles.

Sussex Police were called to Lewes Road at around 4:50pm on Sunday following reports of a man in a car allegedly verbally abusing members of the public.

The vehicle had left the area by the time officers arrived, but was later found near The Level.

Police said officers attempted to speak to the driver, who then drove away.

The car was followed to Morley Street, where police say it was driven on the wrong side of the road and collided with eight parked cars.

Officers used tactics to bring the vehicle to a stop before detaining the driver.

The 41-year-old man was taken to hospital and has since been arrested.

He's suspected of dangerous driving, driving while unfit through drink or drugs, failing to stop and breaching a court injunction.

Police say nobody was injured.
