A man has been arrested after reports of a person carrying a knife inside a supermarket in Lancing.

Police were called to Asda on South Street at around 9.50am following reports that a man had entered the store with a bladed weapon.

No injuries were reported, but officers carried out extensive searches in the area to locate the suspect.

Sussex Police have since confirmed that a man was arrested on suspicion of possessing a bladed article in a public place.

Detective Superintendent Andrew Harbour said:

"We recognise the concern this incident will have caused the community, and I'd like to give the reassurance that we are not seeking anyone else in connection with the incident."

Police enquiries are ongoing.
