A man has been charged following a reported shoplifting incident at a supermarket in Lewes.
Police were called to Waitrose at around 5:30pm on Tuesday 5th May after staff reported a theft.
PCSOs patrolling the area spotted a man matching the suspect description leaving the scene, leading to a foot chase through the town.
Officers later detained the man in a nearby park before taking him into custody.
Danny Hetherington, 33, of Portslade, has since been charged with one count of shoplifting linked to the incident on 5th May, as well as 2 further shoplifting offences connected to a separate report made on 29th April.
He has been bailed to appear before Brighton Magistrates’ Court on 26th June.
As part of his bail conditions, he has also been banned from entering Lewes.
Chief Inspector Kara Tombling said:
“Shoplifting has a significant impact on businesses, staff and the wider community, and we will continue to respond proactively to reports of offending in Lewes.”
