A once-anxious Border Collie has found a happy ending after spending more than eight months in kennels at Dogs Trust Shoreham.

Three-year-old Muffin arrived at the centre in May last year after being transferred from Ireland, but staff say she was nervous and struggled with new people and everyday sounds.

It took six weeks before carers were even able to attach a lead and take her for a walk.

Muffin gradually began to build trust thanks to the patience of Dog Welfare Assistant Alan Campbell, who worked closely with her to improve her confidence through gentle training and support.

After months of progress, she reached a major milestone when she was able to go for her first walk — with staff describing it as a special moment seeing her enjoy being outside again.

Muffin eventually found her forever home in December and is said to be settling in well, growing in confidence and enjoying life.

Dogs Trust says stories like Muffin’s are made possible thanks to funding from Postcode Lottery players, who have raised more than £30 million for the charity.

The money has helped care for over 125,000 dogs across the UK since 2014, supporting rehoming centres, training and behaviour teams, and volunteers.

Staff at the Shoreham centre say the continued support is vital in helping more dogs like Muffin get a second chance.
