Part of Brighton seafront was cordoned off overnight following what police described as a serious incident near Shelter Hall.

Officers were seen guarding the scene on the promenade at around midnight, with a police cordon remaining in place into the early hours of this morning.

The cordon was removed at around 7.30am today.

Videos shared on social media appeared to show large groups of young people gathered in the area on Monday evening, with some members of the public claiming a fight had taken place. However, this has not been confirmed by authorities.

Sussex Police has been approached for further information but has yet to issue a statement on the circumstances surrounding the incident.

No injuries or arrests have been confirmed at this stage.
