Plans to demolish and rebuild a major Crawley secondary school are set to be considered by the borough council in the new year.

Holy Trinity CE School, in Buckswood Drive, has submitted proposals for a brand-new three-storey, L-shaped main building to replace its existing structure.

The application will be reviewed by Crawley Borough Council’s planning committee on January 13.

The new building would include modern teaching and resource spaces, administrative offices, enhanced SEND and Alternative Provision areas, dining and assembly halls, a learning resource centre and a dedicated sixth form centre.

The Young Building, which is home to the school’s arts and design technology departments, is also set to benefit from extension and refurbishment work.

Plans also include the creation of new Multi-Use Games Areas (MUGAs) for both students and the wider community, a new outdoor learning space, and dedicated areas for a memorial garden and chapel.

A new pedestrian and cycle entrance is proposed from Bewbush Drive, while the existing access at Burbeach Close would close.

Holy Trinity opened in 1969, and a 2022 government report under the School Rebuilding Programme identified parts of the site as being in poor condition and in need of development.

The school says the redevelopment would deliver modern, inspiring facilities to support students now and in the future, calling it a “significant milestone” for the community.
