Police are appealing for witnesses and further information following a pursuit and collision in Haywards Heath town centre.

A black Audi A3 drove away from officers in the Sainsbury’s car park into Burrell Road at about 4.20pm on 15 May.

The vehicle turned right into College Road, then back down Summerhill Lane and Queens Road before colliding with a lorry in Mill Green Road at the junction with the Commercial Square roundabout.

Other vehicles were damaged during the pursuit, where the Audi was seen to mount a kerb, drive through a red light, and reach speeds in excess of 50mph in a 30mph zone.

Two occupants inside the vehicle then decamped. One was described as being white, wearing a white T-shirt and shorts, the other man had dark hair and an athletic build was seen running in the direction of Sydney Road wearing all black clothing.

A 21-year-old man was later arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, failing to stop, driving without valid insurance, and possessing A, B and C drugs with intent to supply. He has been bailed, pending further enquiries.

Officers are appealing for any further witnesses to come forward, including anyone whose vehicle may also have been damaged. Anyone with relevant CCTV, dashcam, doorbell or mobile phone footage in the area around the Commercial Square roundabout is also asked to come forward.

Information can be reported to Sussex Police online, quoting serial 974 of 15/05.
