Rail passengers across Sussex are being warned to expect disruption on Monday morning, after planned weekend engineering work overran.
Work has been taking place on the Brighton Mainline between Gatwick Airport, Redhill and Reigate, as well as Purley and East Croydon.
National Rail says the work will not be completed in time for the start of Monday’s services, meaning delays and short-notice changes are likely across the network until the end of the day.
Southern and Thameslink have confirmed that only two of the four lines between Gatwick Airport and East Croydon will be available, resulting in a significantly reduced service.
Passengers are being advised to check their journey before travelling and to allow extra time for their journeys.
Those who wish to delay their travel until Tuesday will be able to use Monday-dated tickets on Southern, Thameslink and Gatwick Express services.
Despite the disruption, some services are expected to run normally — including Southern trains between Reigate and London Victoria, and between Redhill and Tonbridge.
However, several major routes will be affected.
National Rail says:
Gatwick Express services between Brighton, Gatwick Airport and London Victoria will be suspended
Thameslink services between Brighton and Cambridge will be suspended• Peak-time Southern services between Gatwick Airport and London Victoria will not run
Peak-time Southern services between Littlehampton, Bognor Regis, Eastbourne and London Bridge will not run
No trains will stop at Earlswood or Salfords throughout the day
The engineering work is part of a wider programme of improvements planned for the Brighton Mainline, aimed at strengthening the line ahead of the busy summer season.
Passengers are urged to check the latest updates before setting off.
