A Sussex Police officer is set to appear in court charged with non-recent sexual offences involving two girls.

PC Samuel Davis, 21, has been charged with the rape of a girl aged between 13 and 15, and sexual assault by touching of a child.

The alleged offences are said to have taken place between 1 September 2017 and 31 August 2019, before Davis joined Sussex Police.

Both victims were known to him at the time, and specialist officers are supporting them and their families.

Davis, who was based in the Brighton and Hove division, has been suspended from duty.

He is due to appear at Reading Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 13 March.

The case has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), which has directed a conduct investigation by Sussex Police’s Professional Standards Department.

This internal investigation will remain on hold until the conclusion of the criminal proceedings.
