A provisional trial date has been set for two men accused of setting fire to a mosque in East Sussex.
Ricky Ryder, 38, of Richington Way, Seaford, and Jack Slowey, 34, of Mayfield Avenue, Peacehaven, are charged with arson with intent to endanger life, as well as two additional charges of arson relating to vehicles at Peacehaven Mosque on 4 October.
Court heard how two worshippers had to run through flames to escape after the alleged attack.
The mosque was occupied and lights were on when the fire began on the front steps, reportedly ignited with an accelerant.
Prosecutors said there was significant damage to the front of the mosque and one of two nearby vehicles was completely destroyed. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.
The defendants appeared by videolink from Thameside Jail, confirmed their identities, and were remanded into custody.
Mrs Justice Cheema-Grubb confirmed the case will be heard by a High Court judge at Kingston Crown Court.
Ryder and Slowey are due to enter their pleas at their next court appearance on 27 March 2026, with the trial scheduled to begin on 1 December 2026.
