Two men have been charged with murder following the death of 34-year-old Cameron Devlin, who was assaulted in central Brighton just days before Christmas.
In the early hours of 21 December 2019, Cameron was violently attacked by a group of men in North Street.
He suffered a serious shoulder injury and, despite medical treatment, tragically died in hospital on Boxing Day due to complications.
Police launched a major investigation and made several swift arrests at Brighton Station only hours after the assault.
A fifth suspect was detained the following month as detectives pieced together the events of that night.
Now, nearly five years on, the Crown Prosecution Service has authorised charges to the following:
Oliver Priddle, 25, of Peacock Lane, Brighton
Niraj Amaidas, 24, of Colwyn Close, Crawley
Both men have been charged with murder and grievous bodily harm with intent.
Priddle also faces a charge of possessing a Class C drug.
Detective Inspector James Meanwell of the Major Crime Team said:
“This has been a lengthy and complex investigation.
"Following the conclusion of all necessary enquiries, charges have now been authorised.
"Our thoughts remain with Cameron’s family, who will be fully supported as proceedings continue.”
The shocking attack has left a family grieving and a community demanding answers, as two men prepare to face justice in court today (Thursday).
