Emergency teams rescued two people late on Wednesday night after they became stranded on cliffs near Fairlight, East Sussex.
The pair had set out on a walk from Pett to Hastings but got into difficulty after misjudging the route and attempting to navigate the area in darkness. As the tide began to rise, they found themselves stuck on the cliffs with no safe way to continue.
Pett Level Independent Rescue was alerted at 11.46pm on 25 June and launched a lifeboat to reach the pair. Coastguard teams from Hastings and Bexhill, along with police officers, were also involved, monitoring the situation from the cliff tops.
Given the location of the casualties and the rising tide, rescuers determined that a sea extraction was the safest approach. The two individuals were safely recovered by boat and brought back to Pett Slip, where welfare checks were carried out.
Rescue teams have reminded the public of the dangers of coastal walks at night, particularly in areas with limited access and fast-changing tidal conditions.
