Water supplies have been restored to most affected customers in parts of East Sussex, although some households are still facing disruption, according to South East Water.

Thousands of homes and businesses in Frant were left without water on Wednesday after leaks and bursts caused a drop in pressure across the network.

South East Water says storage tanks serving the area recovered overnight, allowing booster pumps to be restarted on Thursday morning.

However, the company has warned that some customers could continue to experience intermittent supplies if demand exceeds what can be pumped into the system.

He apologised to residents and businesses affected, acknowledging how disruptive water outages can be.

Bottled water has been delivered to priority customers.

The latest disruption comes after a much larger outage late last year, when around 24,000 properties across Tunbridge Wells, Pembury, Eridge and Frant lost water or experienced low pressure for several days following a water quality issue at a treatment works in Pembury.

Residents in Frant have reported ongoing concerns about low pressure, with some saying supplies remain unreliable and could be lost again without warning.

South East Water says customers can check its online interactive map for the latest updates on water supplies in their area as repair work continues.
