West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service has celebrated the courage and commitment of its staff at this year’s Recognition and Achievement Awards, held at Arundel Castle.

Firefighters and staff were honoured for long service, bravery, and exceptional contributions to the community, with guests including the Lord Lieutenant of West Sussex, Lady Emma Barnard, and County Councillor Duncan Crow.

Among those recognised was Suzanne Goff, who received the Career and Lifetime Achievement Award for 25 years of service, championing female health and wellbeing within the service.

Lyndon Osgood took home the Exceptional Service Award for saving the service thousands through innovative engineering, while the Targeted Education Team won Team of the Year for their inclusive Fire Cadets programme.

The Bravery Award went to Green Watch Chichester, who entered freezing canal waters to rescue a trapped driver, and Andy Horner received the British Empire Medal for a remarkable five decades of service.

Chief Fire Officer Gary Ball praised the winners, saying:

“Every recipient has made a lasting impact on our county — through bravery, innovation or compassion. I’m immensely proud of their dedication.”
