Worthing firefighter Matt Wainwright is gearing up for the London Marathon on 26 April, taking on the 26.2‑mile course from Greenwich to The Mall to raise crucial funds for Crohn’s & Colitis UK.

After ten years of applying, Matt has finally secured a place in the prestigious event.

His motivation is deeply personal: his eldest daughter, Sophie, was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease in 2014, and the charity has been a vital source of support for their family ever since.

Matt said:

“I’m thrilled to have finally secured a spot after a decade of trying.
"My fundraising target is £2,500, and every penny will help Crohn’s & Colitis UK fund research, raise awareness, and support families like mine living with this condition.
"Sophie has endured countless treatments for a disease that currently has no cure, and I want to make a difference.”

Supporters can donate and follow Matt’s journey via his JustGiving page.
