A 23-year-old man has admitted manslaughter over the death of a man in Worthing.
Taylor Mitten, of Lindum Road in Worthing, pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility at Hove Crown Court yesterday (Friday).
He had originally been charged with murder following the death of 25-year-old Jack Mitten.
Police were called to Lindum Road, Tarring, at around 4pm on Wednesday 3 September 2025 after receiving reports that a man had suffered serious injuries.
Jack Mitten, who was also from Lindum Road, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A manhunt was launched and Taylor Mitten was arrested on Friday 5 September.
He was subsequently charged with murder on 8 September and appeared at Crawley Magistrates' Court, where he was remanded in custody.
His plea to manslaughter was entered at Hove Crown Court on Friday 11 September 2026.
Mitten is due to be sentenced on 22 October.
Detective Chief Inspector Mark Cullimore, the senior investigating officer, said Jack's family continues to receive support from specialist officers.
He said:
"Our thoughts remain with Jack Mitten’s family who are receiving the full support of Sussex Police specialist trained officers as they come to terms with such a tragic loss.
"We continue to strongly request media and members of the public to respect their request for privacy during this time.
"As proceedings draw to a conclusion, I’d like to thank everyone who has supported the progression of this case.
"From the witnesses and members of the public who came forward to aid enquiries, to officers and staff who have worked tirelessly and diligently throughout this complex investigation."
