A yellow weather warning for heavy rain has been issued across Sussex and parts of the south coast, with flooding and travel disruption possible from Wednesday morning.
The warning, issued by the Met Office, covers Brighton and Hove, West Sussex and East Sussex, and will be in force from 6am on Wednesday (18 February) until 8am on Thursday (19 February).
Forecasters say spells of heavy rain will move across southern England during Wednesday and overnight into Thursday.
Rainfall totals of 10mm to 20mm are expected widely, with some areas near the south coast potentially seeing between 20mm and 30mm.
Strong easterly to northeasterly winds may also add to disruption, particularly in coastal locations.
Flooding And Travel Disruption Possible
The warning highlights several potential impacts, including:
Spray and flooding on roads, making journeys longer
Possible delays to bus and rail services
Flooding affecting a small number of homes and businesses
Possible interruption to power supplies
Coastal areas along the English Channel may also see large waves affecting exposed seafront locations.
Advice For Residents And Travellers
The Met Office is urging people to check travel conditions before setting off and allow extra time for journeys.
Residents are also advised to check whether their properties are at risk of flooding and prepare where necessary.
The yellow warning indicates a medium likelihood of impacts, but officials say conditions could change quickly and people should keep up to date with the latest forecasts.
The unsettled weather is expected to ease later on Thursday, with conditions gradually improving across the region.
