A27 Polegate By-Pass Closed After Cement Mixer Overturns

A loaded cement mixer overturned on the A27 Polegate by-pass on Monday morning, forcing the closure of the road in both directions.

The incident happened between the A26 Beddingham Roundabout and the A2270 Eastbourne Road at around 9:40am.

Sussex Police and the South East Coast Ambulance Service were called to the scene.

The westbound carriageway has since reopened, but drivers can still expect delays as recovery work continues.

A diversion route has been put in place, directing traffic via the A26 at Southerham Roundabout, then along the B2192 and B2124, before joining the A22 and returning to the A27.

This follows a similar incident last week, when an overturned cement mixer caused heavy delays on the A259 in Shoreham, West Sussex.
