A27 Reopens After Overnight Crash And Vehicle Fire Near Polegate

Motorists faced delays on the A27 near Polegate on Wednesday morning after a crash was followed by a car fire.

The incident happened just before 11pm on Tuesday on Lewes Road, Newlands, near the Wilmington crossroads.

East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service sent two appliances to the scene and extinguished a fire in one of the vehicles involved.

The A27 was closed between Drusillas roundabout and Polegate crossroads while police carried out an investigation.

The road reopened shortly after midday, allowing traffic to return to normal.
