Drones could be banned from taking off and landing in all parks and public open spaces across Brighton and Hove under proposals being considered by the city council.

The measure forms part of one of six new Public Space Protection Orders (PSPOs), which have gone out for public consultation after being approved by the council's cabinet.

The proposals aim to tackle a range of issues, including drone use, dog walking and overnight recreational camping.

Councillor Emma Daniel, cabinet member for children, families and youth services, said drones can be "intrusive and dangerous if not flown with care".

A report to the cabinet said there had been a history of unsafe drone use around children's playgrounds and recreation areas.

Councillors were told the proposed ban would bring council policy into line with Civil Aviation Authority guidance.

The consultation also includes plans to ban overnight recreational camping on council land.

Councillor Daniel said the proposal is not intended to criminalise homelessness or target travellers, but to address holidaymakers camping in public spaces instead of using campsites.

Other proposed measures include extending existing bans on disposable barbecues, balloon releases and sky lanterns, while dogs would be required to be kept on leads in some areas.

The public consultation is open for five weeks and closes on 7 August.
