Eastbourne Man Charged In Connection With Extreme Right Wing Terrorism Investigation

Counter Terrorism Policing South East has charged a man in connection with an investigation into Extreme Right Wing Terrorism in Sussex. 


Thomas Smith, aged 33, of Blakes Way, Eastbourne, was charged yesterday (Wednesday) with seven counts of encouragement of terrorism, contrary to section 1 of the Terrorism Act 2006.


Smith was arrested by CTPSE officers along with three other people on Thursday (4/12), a 27-year-old woman from Hailsham, and two other men from Eastbourne; aged 36 and 41, as part of a planned operation, supported by officers from Sussex Police. 


The 36-year-old man was subsequently released with no further action. 


Tuesday saw the 41-year-old man and the 27-year-old woman also released with no further action. 


Smith was remanded in custody to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court today (11/12).
