Police Officer Seriously Injured After Motorcycle Collision In Shoreham

A police officer suffered serious leg injuries after being struck by a motorcycle during an incident in Shoreham.

Sussex Police said officers became aware of motorcycles being ridden dangerously in the area at around 5pm on Sunday.

Following a pursuit to a petrol station in Brighton Road, a motorcycle collided with an officer who had got out of his vehicle to apprehend the rider.

Despite being seriously injured, the officer continued to help detain the rider and pillion passenger.

Max Harvey, 21, of Buckingham Road, Shoreham, has been charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm, driving while disqualified and having no insurance.

He appeared at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on Monday and was bailed with conditions to appear before the crown court on September 22.

A 17-year-old boy from Hove, who was the pillion passenger, was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motorbike, assault occasioning grievous bodily harm and possession with intent to supply cannabis.

He has been bailed while enquiries continue.

Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with mobile phone, dashcam or CCTV footage to come forward, quoting serial 908 of 23/08.
