A self-employed taxi driver from Hastings has been found guilty of multiple sexual offences following a trial.
Abdulhamid Alammar, 34, of the Baldslow area of St Leonards-on-Sea, was convicted of sexual assault and causing a person to engage in non-penetrative sexual activity after a trial at Lewes Crown Court.
The offences took place in Hastings in November 2024. The jury found him not guilty of false imprisonment.
The court heard that on the evening of 29 November 2024 a woman in her 30s booked a taxi home from a friend’s address.
She was picked up by Alammar, who instead of taking her to her destination drove to a secluded location where the sexual assault took place.
The incident came to light during a separate investigation by Sussex Police into another sexual assault reported in Hastings in April 2025.
Once the earlier incident was disclosed, the victim was supported by specially trained officers and an investigation was launched.
Alammar was arrested and charged while he was already in custody over the later allegations.
In October 2025 he stood trial over the April incident and was convicted of sexual assault but cleared of rape and sexual assault by penetration.
He remained in custody ahead of the second trial.
Following the latest hearing on Friday (6 March), Alammar was found guilty of sexual assault and causing a person to engage in non-penetrative sexual activity.
He has been remanded in custody and will be sentenced for both convictions at Lewes Crown Court on a date yet to be confirmed.
Detective Constable Christina Bales, from the Hastings Safeguarding Investigation Unit, said the offences were “serious and predatory” and praised the victims for their courage in coming forward.
Police continue to urge anyone who has experienced sexual offences to report them to officers so they can receive support and help bring offenders to justice.
