A man is due to be sentenced after admitting the rape of a woman in a car park in Worthing.

Suleman Mukaish, 27, of Cambridge Road in Worthing, was charged in connection with an incident that took place on 11 March.

He appeared before Lewes Crown Court on 13 April, where he pleaded guilty to the offence.

The victim, a woman in her 20s, has been supported throughout the investigation by specially trained officers.

Following the hearing, Detective Superintendent Andrew Harbour said the case had involved a detailed and thorough investigation, with officers focused on securing justice for the victim.

He also praised the victim’s courage, and thanked witnesses and members of the public who provided assistance and came forward with important information, helping police to build a strong case.

Detective Superintendent Harbour added that tackling violence against women and girls remains a key priority for Sussex Police, with ongoing work alongside partners to prevent offences, support victims, and bring offenders to justice.

Mukaish has been remanded in custody and is due to be sentenced on 15 June at a crown court, which is yet to be confirmed.

Information on support for victims of rape and serious sexual offences is available via the Safe:Space Sussex and the Sussex Police website.
