A striking new public artwork could be coming to Shoreham – if plans get the green light from Adur District Council.
More than 35 proposals were submitted for the project, with officers recommending ‘Shadow Ships’ by artists Peter Hudson and Dawn Parsonage of Light Space Colour Ltd.
The piece is designed to reflect Shoreham’s maritime history while creating playful shadow effects for children and offering a contemplative, celebratory space for all ages.
Council officers described it as having the potential for “intergenerational impact”.
The final decision now rests with Adur’s cabinet member for environment and leisure, Andrew Harvey, and Worthing’s cabinet member for regeneration, Rita Garner.
They are expected to make their ruling by Tuesday 7 October.
If approved, the £31,895 scheme would be funded through Section 106 developer contributions linked to three major Shoreham developments – including the Riverbank Business Centre, new homes at Brighton Road, and the Lidl site at the Malthouse Trading Estate.
Officers said pooling the contributions into one major project would provide greater value for the community than commissioning three smaller works separately.
