A prolific shoplifter who stole more than £2,200 worth of goods from stores in Worthing over a four-month period has been jailed for 12 months.

Karlie Everson, 39, of no fixed address, was sentenced at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on 8 May after admitting a string of theft and criminal behaviour order offences.

The court heard that between 17 November 2025 and 7 May 2026, Everson repeatedly targeted shops across the town, stealing high-value everyday items including coffee, steak, butter, cheese, washing-up liquid and laundry products.

On one occasion, she stole £412 worth of beauty gift sets in a single theft.

Police arrested Everson on 7 May, charging her with 19 counts of theft from a shop and 19 counts of breaching a criminal behaviour order.

She was remanded in custody ahead of her court appearance the following day.

Everson pleaded guilty to all offences and was also ordered to pay £272 in court costs.

Sergeant Amelia Roberts said Sussex Police remained committed to tackling retail crime and supporting businesses affected by repeat offending.

“Shoplifting has a significant impact on businesses and staff, particularly when stores are repeatedly targeted,” she said.
“We will continue working proactively to identify offenders, bring them before the courts and support the safety of our communities.”
