A yellow rain warning is in place for parts of Sussex and south-east England on Thursday, with heavy showers and strong winds expected to cause travel disruption and localised flooding.

The warning covers East Sussex, West Sussex, and parts of Kent and Surrey, running from midnight until 9pm.

Some exposed coastal areas could see winds exceeding 50mph, and bus and train services may face delays.

Power cuts and other service interruptions are also possible.

The heaviest rainfall is expected across the Downs, with most areas seeing 15-25mm, while some spots could receive 40-60mm.

The rain is expected to clear to the east by the end of the day.

Officials advise drivers to check road conditions and public transport timetables before travelling, and to allow extra time for journeys.

Residents are also being reminded to prepare for possible power cuts by gathering torches, batteries, mobile phone power packs, and other essential items.

For those in areas at risk of flooding, it’s recommended to have a flood plan and an emergency kit ready.

Weather conditions may change quickly, so people are urged to stay up to date with local forecasts throughout the day.
